Nenjam ellam kaathal - from Ayutha Ezhuthu

hai yai yai.. or unmai sonnal..
(hey ! if I tell one truth)
nesipaaya??
(will you love me?)

Nenjam ellam kaathal
(My heart is full of love...)
Dhegam ellam kaamam
(My body is full of lust..)
Unmai sonnal ennai
(If I tell you one truth... )
nesipaaya?
(will you love me ??

Kaathal konjam kammi
(The proportion of love is a little less...)
Kaamam konjam thookal
(The proportion of lust is a bit more...)
Manjathin mel ennai
(on the bed...)
mannipaaya?
(will you forgive me?)

Unmai sonnaal nesipaaya...
(if i tell you the truth.. will you love me...?)
manjathin mel mannipaaya...
(Will you forgive me on the bed?)

The female is telling the male.. that even though she loves him, she is lusting for him more at this moment. She is turned on ... and knows that she will be wild on the bed... and she asks her lover whether he will forgive her for her wildness/crazy lust needs..

(Male stanza)
Pengal mele maiyal undu...
(I have always been attracted to women)
Naan pitham kondathu unnil mattum...
(You were the only one I have gone crazy for)
Nee otha parvai parkum pothu..
(When you give me that single look)
En muthugu thandil minnal vettum...
(I feel lightning striking on my spinal chord)

Nee thaane mazhai megam enakku...
(For me you are like the clouds that give rain..)
En hormone nathiyil vella thadukku..
(My hormone rivers are flooding)
Paasaangu.. ini namakketharku?
(Why should we act as though nothing is happening??)
yaar ketka? namakku naame vazhvatharku!
(Whom should we ask for living for ourselves!)

Unmai sonnal nesipaaya..
Manjathin mel mannipaaya??

(Female stanza)
Kaathal ennai varudum pothum...
(When love softly touches me...)
Un kaamam ennai thirudum pothum...
(When your lust steals me...)
En manasellam maargazhi thaan...
(My heart is cool like the month of margazhi)
En iravellam karthigai thaan...
(My nights are like the month of karthigai)

Margazhi is the tamil month from Dec 15 to Jan 15.. this is the coolest month of Tamil Nadu.. She compares her heart (the usual symbol of love/purity) to the chill weather experienced in the month of Margazhi. She personifies her genuine love for him like the cool breeze, and misty mornings of Margazhi
Karthigai is the tamil month from Nov. 15 to Dec 15 (correct me if I am wrong)... Its usually the rainy season... she compares her nights to the wetness/heavy rains experienced in the month of Karthigai. By this she expresses her wish to have wet nights, filled with intense sexual passion, as strong as the rains..

En vaanam en vasathil undu...
(My skies are under my control)
En boomi en vasathil illai...
(My earth is not under my control)

These two lines signify her excited state. She feels that she has got the sky under her control.. meaning the intense level of sexual excitement in her... but the ground is not under her control meaning, she is flying high.. This also signifies a sense of imagination, unreal situation.. because in reality we are all grounded, and reaching the sky is impossible in reality.

Un kuraigal naan ariyavillai...
(I don't know your faults)
Naan arinthaal sooriyanil sutham illai...
(If I knew them, then the sun is not clean)

These two lines tell us that the woman's sexual passion is much higher than that of a man. She says she does not know his shortcomings in love making... actually in this context it sounds like she does not want to know his shortcomings, possibly because she does not want to spoil her mood. And she adds, if she does get to know... then the sun is not clean enough, i.e. if the woman starts evaluating the man's performance in love making, then she would draw so many faults comparing to saying the sun is not clean. Imagine the enormity of her sexual satisfaction level...!

This is my interpretation. Please let me know if I am wrong! I am open to learning more Thamizh.. and the beauty of this poetic language.

Manasellam margazhi thaan...
Iravellam karthigai thaan....

Anjali Anjali Anjali...

Anjali Anjali Anjali... chinna kanmani kanmani kanmani...
(Anjali, Anjali, Anjali... little apple of the eye... apple of the eye... apple of the eye...)

kanmani literally means eye ball.. in this context, the singer is personifying the little girl as his eye ball.. can be understood
as the apple of his eyes

Anjali Anjali Anjali... minnum minmini minmini minmini...
(Anjali Anjali Anjali... sparkling firefly firefly firefly)

Ammamma.. pillai kani...
(Oh my... young fruit...)
(I think the usage of fruit refers to Lord Muruga's fight for the fruit of wisdom which he lost to Lord Ganesha. When he was angry standing on a hill, Avvaiyar consoled him that his knowledge at such a young age, the skill of teaching his father the meaning of "OM", makes him a fruit of wisdom himself. She gives him the name "Pazham nee" meaning "Fruit is you"... which became Pazhani... and the mountain on which he stood angrily is called Pazhani thereafter... So the singer is equating this young child to a fruit... showing how divine the kid is... In her baby ways she has taught the community lot of lessons in compassion, love, and tolerance... so its definitely just to confer her the title "pillai kani" ... I may be wrong guys.. please contribute your suggestions/corrections)
Angamthaan... thanga kani...
(her body parts... are golden fruits... )

Ponmani chinna chinna, kanmani minna minna...

Kanpadum Kanpadum intha pon meni
(all the evil eyes will cast their spell on this poor little golden skin)

Aagayam boomiyellam Iraivan undaakki vaithu...
(After making the earth and the sky....)
Aasaithaan theeramale... unnai thanthaan amma
(God made you soon after.... unable to control his temptation (after creating the earth and the sky)..)
Kanne un mel megam thaan... panneer thoovi neerattum...
(Sweetie... the clouds will sprinkle rose water on you and bathe you...)
Thulli thaavum maankutty... solli solli thaalaattum...

Nadakkum nadaiyil oru pallaaakku....
(When you walk you are a pallak, a carriage carried by men)
Sirikkum pozhuthu oru mathaappu...
(When you laugh you are a sparkler (a handheld firework))
Unathu azhagukkenna? raajathi...
(Oh what about your beauty?! dear)
Ulagam nadanthu varum kai katti
(The whole world will come after you with folded hands... (meaning the whole world will bow its head on seeing your beauty))

Varamal vantha thevathai...
(You're an angel that never visited the earth before...)
Ulavum intha velli thaaragai
(you are a wandering silver girl)

Poopola kannalethaan pesum singaara meni...
(Like a flower... speak with your eyes..)

edukka edukka iru kai kondu...
(to take with both hands...)
inikka inikka oru karkandu...
((she is a ).. a tasty little sugar crystal)

Nilavai pola aadi va...
(Come dancing like the moon)
Nillamaal kooda neeyum odi vaa...

Vinnaithaandi varuvaaya

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdMeTK0VR-o&feature=related

I listened to this just a moment ago. I have heard this bit of music in the film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, when the film opens the titles credits. The woman humming tune, gives you an insight into the film. It describes the heroine as a soft and calm woman.. but yet so deep and mysterious and weak. The tinge of sorrow in the tune tells us that there is an element of tragedy in this film and the character will accept the pain with grace. The base piano hints a bit of confusion in her mind, a to be or not to be kind of a situation. She loves her man deeply, yet cannot stand up for herself. She seeks solace in burying her love for him deep in her heart, the only place where she can be herself.
Believe me, I was able to deduce this even before seeing the film. That's the power of A R Rahman. To my surprise my guess was right.
